RMA Conference 2013
Four of us had a great time playing six new pieces in workshops at the Royal Musical Association Postgraduate Students’ Conference in January, which took place at the University of Southampton. The sessions were chaired by Professor Michael Finnissy and featured new works by Ben Jameson, Yvonne Eccles, Ronald MacNiven, Máté Szigeti, Yuko Ohara and Andrew Thomas. In a review of the conference Alistair Zaldua has written that ‘the composition workshops were excellently chaired by Professor Michael Finnissy and sensitively performed by four members of The Workers Union Ensemble’. Here are some photos from the workshop…
Call for Works 2013
We are pleased to announce our Call for Works 2013, part of our PRS for Music Foundation funded ‘Constructing a Repertoire’ commissioning project. We are really pleased to be teaming up with LSO Soundhub to offer the chance for up to four composers to have their works performed and recorded at our LSO St Luke’s gig in November 2013.
The deadline for emailing us your new scores is 5th July 2013 so composers get cracking!
Full details, including the percussion available, now available on the Call for Works 2013 page.

Review of Sounds New 2012 and Latimer Recording
You can read a review of our Sounds New gig by Daniel Harding at the Sounds New blog.
Comments include:
‘Saxophonist Ellie Steemson demonstrated superb control of her performance [of Turnage’s Two Elegies Framing A Shout], delivered with conviction and commitment and consummate lyrical skill.’
‘A fascinating programme, delivered with real accomplishment by youthful former members of the Guildhall School. Expect to hear more from them…’
Thanks Daniel, and also to Sounds New for having us!
Here is a recording of our Sounds New performance of Ryan Latimer’s new piece for you to feast your ears on:
