Benjamin Oliver is a composer, conductor, electronic musician and pianist.
As a conductor Ben has conducted the premiere of many of his own and other composers with youth, amateur and student ensembles and orchestras including: London Sinfonietta; Kent County Youth Orchestra; University of Leeds Union Symphony Orchestra; LS2; University of Sussex 21 st Century Music Ensemble; CoMA Yorkshire; and the Resonate Dance Project at the Royal College of Music. In November 2014 he conducted the premiere of Michael Finnissy’s Remembrance Day performed by students from the University of Southampton alongside members of the London Sinfonietta and Exaudi Vocal Ensemble.
As a composer he has had nearly fifty works performed internationally and in the UK. Recent performances include: London Sinfonietta (Sounds New 2012; ‘Alternative Visions @ The BFI’, 2014; ‘Notes to the New Government’, 2015); ensemble mise-en (‘Mise-en Music Festival 2014, New York); and BBC Symphony Orchestra (SAM commission); and his latest work Beasts Bounding Through Time for the London Sinfonietta Academy (July 2016). Upcoming commissions include new works for Montreal-based Ensemble Paramaribo (September 2016) and pianist Yshani Perinpanayagam.
Ben completed his DPhil in Composition at the University of Sussex, UK and is Lecturer in Composition at the University of Southampton.
